The Portugese Style Baked Chicken (MOP120 for half a chicken) had a more visually pleasing presentation – being served up in a claypot with an egg carved out to resemble a flower and a layer of cheese on top. Upon digging into the claypot, we found that the chicken was baked in a mild curry similar to Japanese curries. Comparing both chicken dishes, I preferred the African Chicken which I found to be more flavorful.
We had the option of eating rice with the dishes and opted to order 2 bowls of rice. Being so used to eating rice in Malaysia, we automatically ordered the rice without looking at the price, thinking that it would be cheap. How wrong we were!! The 2 bowls of rice cost us MOP30!! (about RM15) Apparently rice is not a staple food in Macau! So the next time you wish to order rice in Macau, please check the price!
Unaware that we were about to pay such a hefty price for rice, I couldn’t leave the restaurant without ordering dessert. We had the famous Macanese Sawdust Pudding (Serradura), MOP42, which again came highly recommended.
Sawdust you say?? Well, don’t be alarmed! Its actually very finely crushed powdery Marie biscuits sprinkled over layers of creamy milk mix which tasted like ice cream since the dessert was served frozen.
It was indeed sheer bliss as you let the frozen layers of cream slowly melt in your mouth! Definitely going to try making this at home one of these days! 🙂
It was an interesting meal indeed with lots of new flavours. Rather heavy on the pocket, but we expected that since we were dining at one of Macau’s finest.

I wldnt Recommend to dine at Solmar Rest. The waiter/waitress are not frendly at all and aft our 1st dish, we waited almost 30mins just for another dish. They gv us an impression like you cant afford to eat.Dont waste your time looking for this Rest.I was there recently June 2011, what a bad experince.Other than that all other Restaurant are good and friendly.
