Blue Reef Fish & Chips – My Current Favourite Restaurant!

Their signature Fish & Chips (RM16) comes in two varieties – beer battered or crumbed. The photo above shows the beer battered variety, which is jolly good and is a very generous portion! I’ve recently tried the crumbed variety too and have decided that I prefer the crumbed. 🙂

Condiments for the fish & chips – homemade tartar sauce (which is creamy, chunky and thick! just excellent!) and Sarsons Malt Vinegar which lends the fish & chips a sour tangy twist.

Another best seller here is the Aglio Olio Pasta (RM16) – angel hair pasta with prawns, bacon and drizzled with olive oil and herbs. Topped off with parmesan cheese. I haven’t had aglio olio with angel hair pasta this good! It has just the right amount of oil without being overly greasy. And the generous bacon bits lend much flavour to the pasta. Definitely a winning dish!

On one occasion, we tried the Seafood Galore (RM32) which is a platter of fish & chips, prawns, scallops and fresh salad. This platter is meant for two, but for small eaters, it can easily cater for 3. Comes either battered or crumbed as well. A good choice for larger groups.

A good choice for those who prefer something light and healthy would be the Steamed Baramundi (siakap fish) with a choice of Ginger & Soy Sauce or Sweet & Sour Sauce (RM19) on a bed of rice. I’ve tried both and the Sweet & Sour sauce wins hands down for me. The sauce is refreshingly tangy which flavors the delicate steamed fish. This dish comes served with a side of baby bok choi which is stir fried lightly with garlic and soy sauce. I love the baby bok choi side dish! It is simple yet surprisingly flavorful!

  6. Wow, a very detailed post on Blue Reef. Very good. I saw your post on Facebook and link it from there.

My mom was crazy over the Sweet & Sour fish freshness. I had a medium expectation on the Chicken miso when i ordered them, but it definitely won me over with the smell itself. Thumbs up!

  7. Do they serve fish & chip with good vinegar sauce? I been looking for a place that serve fish & chip like the one you get in UK / Australia.

    1. hi ly!

they serve their fish & chips with Sarson’s Malt Vinegar and home made tartar sauce. So far, I think they’re the only ones serving fish & chips with vinegar. Probably may not be just like the ones in UK/Oz but i would think it comes pretty close. hope you like the fish & chips here. 🙂
