This Festive Lunar New Year season, G Hotel’s G Cafe has come up with a mouth watering array of dishes in their buffet line up.
First and foremost, CNY wouldn’t be CNY without “yee sang” and G Cafe has included their salmon yee sang in their buffet line up.
The yee sang was thoroughly enjoyable, with thick fresh slices of raw salmon uplifting the dish.
After a tart yee sang appetizer, why not go for something more hearty and nutritious – Fish Maw soup. This soup is double boiled with Chinese herbs, dried scallops, dates and chicken. I found the soup to be piping hot, flavourful and heartwarming indeed.
Fresh mussels on ice
Dim sum offerings…
Was happy to see G Cafe’s do-it-yourself rojak station. Their rojak is pretty good!
Appetizers
The mains include Hong Kong fried noodle and crab meat fried rice.
Crab meat fried rice
Wok Fried Prawns with salted egg yolk is another one of the chef specialties for Chinese New Year.
Chilli Crab – bold tasty flavours which would sit well with crab lovers…
Mussel Sambal – a dish I enjoyed especially since mussel is not often cooked in this manner.
Assorted vegetables with snow peas
The buffet also includes an action station – Live BBQ Counter with a choice of salmon, beef, lamb chop, sausages and an array of seafood including slipper lobster all cooked upon order.
A dish I was happy to see was Peking Duck! I don’t think I’ve ever seen this served at a buffet so I happily tucked in.
Fish is a must have dish during Chinese New Year to symbolize abundance. Hence G Cafe has on offer their Baked whole Salmon with chilli mayo. While the fish was tender and had a good bite, I thought the chilli mayo was rather bland.
Char Koay Teow was one of local favourites available – cooked upon order. I found this quite enjoyable.
Hokkien Prawn Mee
Dessert spread…. includes the ever popular chocolate fountain
Delectable tarts
Peanut butter cake – indulgent and delicious
Mango Mousse – this citrus-y dessert felt very festive.
Green Tea Cake – one of my favourite desserts of the night, the matcha flavour was well balanced and the overall dessert was not too sweet.
Layer Cake & Kek Gula Hangus
While both cakes looked rather ordinary, they tasted really good. Especially the Kek Gula Hangus – moist with a lovely dark caramel flavour.
