Ah…. Foundation oh Foundation…. one of the most important items in any girl’s make up arsenal, and for me one of the most ‘complicated’. Because I’m constantly searching for that ‘perfect’ foundation that:-
– isn’t too light (lest I end up looking like a white faced ghost in photos or in real life! *gasp*)
– the perfect shade for my skin tone so it doesn’t look like I have anything on when I actually do 😛
– doesn’t melt off in our humid weather
– isn’t greasy
– doesn’t feel like I have a thick layer of ‘plaster’ on my face after application
– covers dark circles, acne scars, redness and uneven skin tone
– gives a radiant overall dewy glow (that all Korean actresses seem to have… i wanntttt…!)
Yeah, I do expect quite a fair bit from a bottle of Foundation. Hence I’ve tried quite a few brands (~looks guiltily at all the opened, half used bottles and tubes of foundation/cc creams/bb creams in my makeup drawer~) but have never found ‘the one’.
And so, I was beyond excited when I received an invitation to check out the new All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation by cult make up brand NARS. The name itself sounded promising. But would it deliver? Let’s find out!

At the NARS counter in Parkson, Gurney Plaza, we were given a brief introduction on the new foundation. And each of us got a one on one session with the NARS makeup artist to try out various shades of the Weightless Foundation and Soft Velvet Loose Powder in order to find the perfect shade for our skin.
The NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation comes in 20 (TWENTY) shades ranging from light to dark. *WOW*
I tried on about four shades before the make up artist and I came to a consensus on which shade looked best. She then paired it with a Soft Velvet loose powder shade to complete my look.

At first try, I noticed that the coverage was pretty awesome… and it really felt weightless! I didn’t feel like I have anything on my skin, and it looked very natural.
I couldn’t wait to get home and test run this foundation and loose powder…

My Shade – Deauville, Light 4
The liquid foundation is very water-y, and you need to shake the bottle before using. Just one small pump is sufficient for the entire face (~impressed~)
To apply – using your fingers, start blending from the center of your face outwards. Â Set the foundation with Soft Velvet Loose Powder – using a fluffy brush, dip into the jar, dust off excess and lightly sweep across your face.

Before and after – My bare skin has reddish spots, some pimple marks and the tone is uneven. But after the All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation and Soft Velvet Loose Powder my skin looks sooo much better! And it still looks very natural. Although the foundation is very watery, it sets to a lovely matte finish. I like the coverage too because it covers all the redness and does cover my dark circles somewhat too.
I will say that applying a primer beforehand helps on the ease of application and staying power of the foundation. But even without the primer, the foundation still lasted me throughout my workday. At the end of the workday, I do notice that the coverage isn’t as great on my nose area, but that’s after a long workday without me doing any touch ups in between.
I’ve never been a fan of loose powder but this Soft Velvet Loose Powder does make a difference. The loose powder contains a Hyaluronic acid formula that can blur the appearance of fine lines and pores. Other than setting the foundation and oil control, it gives a dewy smooth finish. yay!
