One fine Saturday morning, a group of Penang bloggers and I had the amazing opportunity to participate in the very first Air Asia Bloggers Community Penang Takeover!
Air Asia, in collaboration with Penang Global Tourism, organized the AABC Penang Takeover, where bloggers from all over Malaysia would join us Penang bloggers to explore Penang’s food, heritage and culture. So in short, we the Penang Bloggers, would be their hosts. π
Everyone was gathered and divided into groups of 5 or 6 and I was in Team 3 together with fellow Penang blogger CK Lam. Our team members were Ruby, CikSukaKuning and Amir
We had to complete a photo challenge using Instagram (& various hashtags) within 6hours and were given a set budget, including complimentary Hop on Hop off tickets. At our kick off point at Chowrasta Market, we quickly went through the 5 photo challenges we had to complete and came up with a game plan.
And then, we were off to our first challenge – hunting for the best breakfast in Penang!
CK led the way to Hutton Lane where we had some delicious Nasi Dalca, Roti Bakar with telur goyang and Roti Canai. The bread was toasted using charcoal which imparts a lovely unique old school aroma.
Yummy toast! Simple breakfast!
#wefie π
Next, we were on the hunt for something that represents Penang – Penangness
the iconic KOMTAR
Old skool sundry shop which is part of Georgetown’s culture
Cycling has swept over the city! With lots of bicycles for rent all over Georgetown. With Georgetown’s narrow streets, cycling is probably one of the best way to explore the city.
Heritage
We stumbled upon a Teochew Puppet & Opera Museum where we could rent Teochew opera clothes for RM5/person. So we had some fun & laughs there, all while admiring the photos of the opera performers.
Next challenge – Penang Essentials – Guide for tourists visiting Penang
For this challenge we decided to get on the Hop On Hop Off bus! I’ve been wanting to experience riding on of these buses since their launch last year. So I was one happy camper π
Waiting for the Hop On Hop Off bus at one of their stops in Chowrasta Market.
On the upper deck of the bus! whee!! You can opt for the uncovered section or the covered air conditioned section at the back of the bus. There are 2 routes, with commentary when we pass by any specific landmarks or places of interest.
Our 4th challenge was the Penang Heritage Trail
Although I live in Penang and do sometimes take friends around Georgetown, I never tire of walking around the Unesco Heritage area as you never know what beauty awaits you… plus, the best way to explore a city is on foot!
Georgetown – an eclectic mix of old and new… and I hope the old will always remain
Masjid Kapitan Keling
Sorry…. we interrupt this post for some pics of a cute kitty I spotted along our walk….. lolz
meow~ <3
And… back to our regular programming… hehehe
Coffee break along Armenian Street
And of course, a must do in Penang… pose with one of the many wall murals!
Our final challenge was Eat Penang Style!
We went for Laksa and nyonya kuih…
We completed the photo hunt challenge and made it back to the gathering point at 3pm!
After that we had a farewell dinner at Yeng Keng Hotel (plus meet up with the other bloggers from other teams) before the lucky draw & prize giving session. Although our team didn’t win the photo hunt challenge, I had so much fun, the memories & experience was priceless!
Hainanese spring roll
Hainanese Chicken Chop
Β I <3 Penang~!
