G Hotel once again hosts their glamorous G Ball for 2017, a business appreciation dinner for the hotel’s business associates and partners. The theme for this year’s G Ball 2017 is The Greatest Show which saw the Grand Ballroom at G Hotel Gurney transformed into a fun, lively and vibrant carnival setting. There were plenty of game booths and snack booths to keep the guests entertained throughout the dinner.

Cocktails, beer and wines were also aplenty while guests mingled about before the start of the dinner

The Grand Ballroom all decked out
I absolutely loved the decor for the Grand Ballroom! The huge feather centerpieces, the red feather boas against the stark white wooden chairs and black table cloth – all perfectly matched to the theme of the night.
Love the carnival light bulbs running across the ballroom ceiling!
The setting was opulent, lavish, cheeky and a touch mysterious all at the same time, which set the perfect mood for this carnival!

In line with the carnival theme, guests were treated to acrobatic acts as well as hilarious stunts by performers from Argentina. The performance was an absolute delight!

Appetizer – Flying Fish
All the courses served during the dinner were given fun names to fit the carnival theme which I thought was a commendable touch of attention to detail.
The appetizer – Flying Fish was a combination of seasoned tuna in virgin olive oil, avocado, cherry tomato and Japanese mayonnaise. I found the appetizer to be most pleasant, the tartness of the cherry tomatoes bringing a lovely freshness to the dish. Meanwhile the seasoned tuna and avocado combination was smooth and delicious. A good start to our meal!
Soup – Juggling Leeks
The next course was a creamy hot leek soup. I was most impressed by the soup for it was served hot. The rich and creamy texture was comforting with subtle garlick-y notes from the garlic candy. Chunks of cajun chicken were the surprise unexpected factor here which I really enjoyed.
Refresh – Magical Ice
To refresh our palate for the main course, Magical Ice was served in the form of a passionfruit sorbet with passionfruit sauce. I found the sorbet to be somewhat creamy and less icy (which is how I like my sorbets!) The passionfruit flavour was bold but not overpowering.
Main Course – Angry Bird
For main course, G Ball served up a slow cooked chicken leg with cheese potato, baby cress and wild mushroom jus. Normally I’m not too excited by a chicken dish for it always seem to pale in comparison to say a beef or lamb dish. However, I was certainly impressed by the Angry Bird. The meat was succulent and juicy but the icing on the cake (pardon my dessert reference here on a main course!hehe) was definitely the crispy skin on the chicken! I polished off the dish in no time!
Dessert – Trapeze Rhubarb
And finally to end things on a sweet note, we were treated to a Trapeze Rhubarb – a rhubarb tart with hazelnut crumble served with vanilla ice cream. For once I was not disappointed that it wasn’t a chocolate dessert! The rhubarb tart was certainly well made, perfect with the hazelnut crumble and soft vanilla ice cream.
Assorted Pralines
To go with our coffee/tea, the assorted pralines were served with cute circus themed decorations!
Another highlight of the night was the dance group featuring a Michael Jackson impersonator who belted out the King of Pop’s hit songs and signature dance moves!

Plenty of generous lucky draw prizes were also given out during the G Ball including return air tickets, branded handbags (which all the ladies in the ballroom were hoping to win!), hotel room stays and more!
