Without a doubt, we Malaysians love hanging out at our local mamak stalls with comforting staples such as maggi goreng, nasi lemak, fried chicken and more. The local mamak stall should ideally offer a quick and delicious meal at affordable prices especially whenever the hunger pangs strike in the middle of the night.
The new kid on the block, Alamak Mamak stall has been making waves since they started operations in late 2016. We finally managed to pay them a visit recently and walked away impressed and contented!
Located along Gottlieb Road (opposite Penang Chinese Girls’ School) Alamak offers a simple and small menu. On the menu are Nasi Lemak and Maggi Goreng with several add ons such as fried chicken and sunny side up eggs.
Service was efficient and most importantly our food was served with huge smiles all round 🙂
Alamak Mamak Stall’s delicious bestsellers
Crunchy, hot fried chicken! Yummeh!
I loved the fried chicken (which was served hot) with its tumeric based marinade. Plus the peppery seasoning on top makes the chicken even more flavourful.
Nasi Lemak Goreng + Ayam (Special) RM8.50
Why go for regular Nasi Lemak when you can go for Nasi Lemak Goreng? hehehe
Alamak’s Nasi Lemak Goreng was pretty good, you can still taste the ‘santan-y’ richness in the rice with some crunchy anchovy bits. And it’s served with a dollop of their tangy and sweet sambal sauce. Paired with the crunchy hot fried chicken and egg, this was certainly a delicious meal. I would have preferred some spicy kick though as the overall dish leaned a bit on the sweet side. But all in all an enjoyable, satisfying plate of Nasi Lemak Goreng.
Maggi Goreng Ayam (RM7.50)
Next, we tried the Alamak’s Maggi Goreng with fried chicken. The noodles were springy and delicious (I think they use Mi Sedap brand of instant noodles) Their sambal sauce also makes an appearance here which transformed the instant noodles somewhat. The noodles also lean towards the sweet side so it would suit all palates young and old. Of course, the lovely fried chicken completes the dish 🙂
Coconut Shake – bestseller RM4
We saw that the Coconut Shake was listed as bestseller on the menu and it was enough to convince all of us to try it. With no regrets! The coconut shake was creamy, icy cold and rich with bits of coconut flesh to give the drink some texture. I absolutely loved it! A must try drink.
Alamak Mamak Stall Menu
I saw that they have a Roti Rainbow on their Facebook page which isn’t listed on the menu… which gives me the perfect excuse for another visit really soon! The friendly and fast service is also another plus!
