Pulau Tikus Laksa & Char Koay Teow

Apologies for the lack of updates lately. Some things going on personally, good things I would say. πŸ™‚ And also travelling quite a bit for work. So here’s something short and sweet and old school… good ol’ Penang hawker food. πŸ™‚

One of my favourite places to go to for lunch in Pulau Tikus is this lil old kopitiam tucked along a row of shophouses opposite the police station. The kopitiam (Kopitiam Sin Hwa) is located directly opposite Arcadia Florist.

Most of the patrons here will usually order both the laksa and char koay teow. Because they are equally good!

The laksa comes in the original Penang Assam Laksa version, as well as the Siam version. But I will usually order the ‘cham’ which is a mix of the assam and Siam version. Resulting in a soury laksa with a slightly ‘lemak’ taste to it.

The Char Koay Teow here is probably not as famous as Ah Leng or Sister’s Char Koay Teow, but still an above average plate. Simple and good, without all the lavish mega huge prawns etc…

So the next time you’re in Pulau Tikus, do swing by this kopitiam and let me know what you think of the laksa and char koay teow!

what2see – yeah you’re right! i take mine with duck egg too. πŸ™‚

little inbox – i think this laksa is one of the better ones in town. i like it better than the one opposite peng hwa.

nktob -heehee… somehow or other ppl will end up comparing to the more famous CKTs… but to me, this is just as good. πŸ™‚

  2. Fei Fei always hunting for Siam Laksa and this is one of them that he like to hop on.

There is another one at Lorong Selamat that sell Siam Laksa too… I personally refer the one there.

  3. Well… I would still prefer the CKT here compared to Sister’s or Lorong Selamat ones. At least you still get the reasonable amount without paying extras for the additional crab meat or extra large prawns. These extras are not a must to have.

As for the laksa, the mixed is good but the amount of fish has decreased while the price has increased since the last few months. You should try the other laksa stall in the corner coffee shop right at the other end (Solok Moulmein). The laksa is cooked by local Thais and the taste and portion is just as good.

  4. I agree with what “550ml jar of faith” mentioned…this CKT is anytime better n tastier than the arrogant Lrg Selamant or Sistes
